While 2020 has changed the world in ways we never expected to see, and with millions of people having to stay at home for months at a time, home transformations have taken the internet by storm. With more and more of us with spare time on our hands and inspiration from other fed up homeowners, 2020 has shown us some glorious redecorating and incredible trends that we hope to see continue in 2021! We’ve highlighted some of our personal favourites in the bathroom, so if you’ve been looking to redecorate but aren’t sure where to start, this is the article for you!
Glamour mirrors
Any bathroom needs a mirror to be complete, but 2020 has really stepped that up. Mirrors have the advantage of making rooms look bigger, and big bathrooms are even more desirable this year. The most popular, and arguably most glamorous, is the Hollywood mirror. These are a stunning addition, modernising bathrooms and making them look bigger and brighter. We absolutely love these mirrors but can also appreciate that they might be a bit much for some homeowners, which is why backlit mirrors are a perfect alternative. They’re more minimalist and subtle and have incredible effects that will immediately transform your bathroom. You can even get mirrors with mood lighting, letting you pick your perfect colour!
Big tiles
We’ve all heard the phrase that bigger is better – this year, in tiles, it’s true! Big tiles are a fantastic option to make bathrooms look bigger and have become a fan favourite across the nation. The best part about this trend is that it’s easily personalised to any taste and colour scheme, as the main focus is on the size of the tile and not the design or effect. Whether you like a classic white with a touch of marbling, or you want to move away and pick a vibrant colour – another trend to be mentioned! – this is a trend that everyone can enjoy!
Pops of colour
Before now, all-white bathrooms were very popular, as they look clean and spacious. This is still a beautiful option, but some homeowners are starting to branch out and bringing colour into the bathroom to create gorgeous combinations and effects. Our personal favourite way of doing this is introducing plants into the bathroom. Monstera plants growing in corners with huge, deep green leaves popping against white tiles, or even cute succulents on shelves and windowsills make a huge difference! You can choose different colour pots to match your colour scheme and have a lovely effect when they contrast with towels and bathmats. Plants are also natural air cleaners and will keep your bathroom looking fresh and welcoming!
Spa inspo
The biggest and best trend that we’ve seen is the creation of home spas in bathrooms. With such a difficult year almost behind us, we’ve all been yearning for a place to relax, to retreat and enjoy moments of calm and self-care. With so many places having to close, we’ve had to get creative in making those spaces at home and transforming your bathroom into a spa has to be the best solution! Waterfall showers are a fantastic addition to any home and give off a gorgeously luxurious feel. Stand-alone baths have also been a popular renovation, perfect for evenings of relaxing and pampering. These bathrooms are not only beautiful to look at, but will also increase your property value!
2020 has bought us a huge amount of stunning trends around the house, and these are just some of our favourites for one room. Spending time before you redecorate picking out your favourite trends will help you pin together the perfect designs for you, – and we can’t wait to see what 2021 brings us!
