Its only a matter of time and you even will not realize, until your adolescents let you know that they’re outgrown for their kiddy room. At this stage, you are not in a position to decide on your own for decor plan but to do it with these grown ups as this might be entirely their idea to give a better teen look or to renovate their kiddy room.
At this stage they will definitely have definite changes they want to make and we’ll have to accommodate to their preferences, as well as their life style needs, which are increasingly more grown-ups. They will not like any more their young childhood stuff and toys and other embarrassing reminders of their kiddy age and they are definitely out of the room.
As teenagers, they require more storage for clothing, their expanding music collection and instruments, their computer apparatus, personal grooming spot and a place to do lots of homework. On top of all these they want an environment that they can consider private, secure and totally their own.
Decorating a room for your older kiddo, now will be a challenge for you, but one way it can be easy and accomplished if we stay open minded and stay without trying to impose our ideas in to the decor plan as our grown up will have more ideas and plans for their own space. With age, they have developed their own personal style in clothing, hobbies, book, music and the people they are friends with, which will not match 100% with ours. Their taste for decorating and styling their rooms in that way might be totally different than ours.
Without trying to criticize or stop, we can help them in succeeding with their plan for new teen room. But of course as parents we can set the ground rules, disallowing anything we find to be really outrageous or in totally wired taste in a manner that they will not discourage. However, we even may surprised and feel proud of our teenager’s creativity and ideas in the end.
While working on their room project, main factor is the color they choose, might be an unconventional or totally unacceptable color scheme for a room wall and if we think it is an unusual or too strong for walls, we can suggest them to compromise it with different touches of the color with lines and designs, may be a window treatments etc.,
At this age, boys as well as girls want a room that reflects their individuality and freedom. When girls like more styling and wanting to have different stylish design curtains, boys might not agree with this at all. Even on wall paper design or a piece of furniture their decision will be totally different to each other. At this stage, if its a boy we can bring out our own taste of designs and show them to choose their interest out of them.
Besides the main decorating issues teenagers like more privacy whether its a girl or a boy and they would like to have their own space for watching tv, playing games unlike earlier sitting in one room with parents. And also kids at this age need a place to study or talk with friends without the distractions of the rest of household and need considering having a work station that is fully equipped with a computer, printer with a comfortable chair for their own.
Another important fact is, we should not forget to make the room for visiting friends, as at this age, they love hanging out with their friends in private and need to create more space and seating to welcome them. All in knowing our kids are growing and changing with age we need to respect their liking and privacy, but keeping them close to us.
